Description:
When you die, you sacrifice dragon souls, black souls, gold, and eventually whatever you've got, to resurrect. Or, you go to Sovngarde.
(You don't actually go to Sovngarde, you will just die for real...)

Mostly inspired by Stay In The Fight - A Death Alternative by FarmingDarkness.
I wanted something a litter lighter, that did only what I needed, and more consistently.
If you want something with a bit more features, check out that mod.
Also check out Death's Door - Death Alternative by Kamikaze1, which also has a similar idea.

With this mod, whenever you die, you will sacrifice at least 1 of (in this order):
  • Dragon Soul
  • Filled Black Soul Gem
  • 10% of your Gold (unless the player has less than 250)
  • A random ingredient, misc item, potion, or scroll (it's random per death, if you don't have what it randomly checks for, you die)
Quest items and equipped items are always safe. If you don't have any of the top tier, the next tier is then checked.

Each additional follower that assists you in combat will increase the number of sacrifices by 1.

If you're killed by a hostile enemy, they will fully restore their health.
All hostile enemies that are targeting the player will be calmed for 15 seconds.
Player will become ethereal for 15 seconds, to either run away or re-engage.

If you don't have anything to sacrifice, it's (optionally) game over.
All of the sacrifice options can be disabled in the MCM, including the game over.

Deaths, and Dragon Soul and Black Soul Gem sacrifices are counted via a Global Variable in the plugin.
I figured these could be used for some integration with other mods, or used internally for something.
Right now, they do nothing else.

Requirements:
Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE64)
powerofthree's Papyrus Extender
MCM Helper
And whatever the above mods require

Recommended:
You should use this with any mod that makes Dragon Souls more useful.
Dragonborn Aptitude - Dragon Souls Mod by sasnikol is the one I use.
Souls Do Things 2 SE - A Dragon Soul Utilities Mod by revenant0713 is another good one, but disable its Dragon Soul Revival feature.

Show

Installation:
Install manually, or just use your favorite mod manager.
Plugin is ESL flagged.

Updating:
To properly update to a new version, first disable the mod from the MCM, install the new version, and re-enable the mod from the MCM.

Uninstallation:
Disable the mod from the MCM before removing.

Load Order:
When in doubt, just use LOOT.

Known Issues:
Some minor quirks to note:
  • When you disable the mod from the MCM, your character will twerk for a femtosecond. That just means it worked.
  • When you disable the mod from the MCM, and load a previous save where it was still active, the status in the MCM will be incorrect unless you toggle it again. (Just don't do this, why would you...)
  • When you die underwater in first-person, the camera may get weird. We try to force the camera into third-person when this happens. If you're using Improved Camera SE, the camera might get stuck in some sort of "limbo" state that's neither first nor third-person... Just toggle your view again to fix it.
  • There might be some death events that I didn't account for, but I think I got everything. If your health hits 0 or below, and you don't die, let me know what happened.

Compatibility:
Should be compatible with everything, except other alternate death mods, obviously.
There's also mods like Sacrosanct - Vampires of Skyrim, for example, that feature an alternate death system.
I'm not sure how other mods will react. Just make sure any death-related features are disabled.
